  • How to study the bible for all its worth

Led by Nate Adams, this session is designed to help you understand the big picture of the Bible more clearly, and to provide some simple tools for reading and studying your Bible more personally. It will be especially helpful to those without much Bible training or experience but also provide a helpful overview and useful tools to anyone wanting to engage the Bible more deeply. We will talk about common barriers people experience in engaging the Bible, and how to overcome them. We will look at the differences between several main translations of the Bible, and the benefits of different kinds of Bibles. After looking at the Bible’s source, structure, and overall storyline, we will spend two weeks “skipping over the mountaintops” of the Old Testament, and one week doing the same for the New Testament. We will conclude by looking at several methods that can make personal Bible study more natural and motivational. The goal is to help each of us deepen our lives as disciples of Jesus by learning to embrace the Bible personally and more consistently as His personal word to us.

  • the p.r.a.i.s.e. way

In "The P.R.A.I.S.E. Way: Better Meetings with God," we'llexplore prayer with six parts, postures, and people in the Bible who prayed well. In each session, we will study, discuss, and put that day’s prayer into action. We will pray in small and large groups, but only those who wish to pray aloud will do so. You can join the group at any time in the semester.

  • the home team

Family life is busy these days and faces all kinds of challenges. Mark Emerson will lead participants to consider practices of "winning" families. This includes reading together, eating together, worshipping together, serving together, and praying together. You will learn practical insights to strengthen what you are currently doing and be offered challenges to start new traditions. This class would be perfect for families with children of any age still in the home, for those who may have children down the line, or even grandparents wanting to invest in the spiritual health of their grandchildren.

  • simplifying your spiritual life

The joy of the Christian life can too often and too easily slip to the side of our daily lives. How do we retain our spiritual enthusiasm and creativity for the ways God is shaping us? Jesus faced incredible challenges and suffered agonizing trials, but there was simplicity in His relationship with His Father that we can emulate. And in that simplicity, we can find joyful rhythms of seeking to know Jesus more fully.

If your walk with Jesus is new and you want to develop a strong foundation to your faith or if your Bible study seems tedious and your prayer life wearisome, stop and rediscover how rewarding the simple Christian life can be.
